Embody Your Voice: A Movement, Dance, Sound-Making Improv Lab
Come explore your voice in a safe, playful and experiential movement, dance, sound-making improv lab. Sometimes our voice becomes a talking head, a cognitive function of communication, a cognitive detour, a mouth open or closed longing to communicate the truest expression that lives inside us, and from this place, we can feel disconnected from our essence. Disconnection from our voice can lead to suppressing and toning down our authentic expression, holding back based on perceived or real rejection, oppression, and/or lack of safety, which alters how we share and if we share. Often familial and cultural influences give root to the suppression of our voice. Even if you don’t resonate with the suppression or cognition of your voice, perhaps you just long for a more playful range of self-expression and a place to play. Either way this workshop is for you.
In this workshop, you can expect to playfully cultivate your voice in deeper connection and alignment with your body, mind and spirit. Using improvisational activities including mirroring, sound and movement games, vocal toning, and harmonic convergence, you will be guided in the group experiences where your voice becomes embodied in its fullest expression. We will culminate with a facilitated ecstatic dance, incorporating vocal play prompts ranging from breathy soft sounds, to gibberish conversations and guttural howls. In our closing circle, we will reflect together on the unique movements and sounds that came into form through the workshop.
